Instructors operate at this school on various days to give students, generally from Middle and Senior Stage, lessons for brass, strings, woodwind and percussion instruments. Some students are expected to have their own instruments although some are available to hire for a small levy from the school for the first 12 months. If you wish your child to learn any of these instruments, you should arrange an appointment with the music teacher through the school administration.
Students involved in the music program will be expected to practise regularly at home. Parents are required to supervise practice at home, as it will involve a good deal of discipline, time and effort. The Instrumental Music Program has been a great success at this school with our bands taking out a number of prestigious awards. Involvement in this program therefore means that students will be required to participate in a number of competitions throughout the year such as the Gold Coast Eisteddfod.
All students who learn an instrument through the school are expected to attend and play in either the string orchestra or the beginner or senior band. Students who do not regularly attend may be asked to return their instrument and cease instruction. It is also expected that students participate in all school concerts and events where the band is required to play. Students who do not attend all events without a valid reason may be exited from the program.
